:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from The old one! -- Different but totally Delightful! : This reads differently from other books by Harper. It is definitely not your run-of-the-mill les/fic. Alternates between Olivia and Marie telling their side of the story. It is definitely a love story but the focus is on admitting to it! Olivia is quickly won over by Marie and the same goes for Marie being infatuated with Olivia. BUT-- the difference is that Marie is kind of more in love with herself! She is easy to like even though she is very self-centered. Being 12 years older that Olivia, Marie has had more time for one night stands and isn't interested in anything long term. Olivia has really only had 1 long term partner. I loved how the two got to know each other and became dependent on one another. For the life of me, I couldn't decide how this one would end. I'll say that I was satisfied with the ending. Again, not your usual Harper Bliss book. It's much deeper and I completely devoured it! Please read this, you'll be glad you did. She takes dynamically opposing personalities and finds the bridge that connects them giving each character the opportunity for change and growth. As a woman on the spectrum, I find many answers to life situations by reading fiction because where else would these stories come from other than life? This is a beautiful story of two mature women finding that life can be more than they have come to expect or been running from. A romance that leaves you cheering and for those that have read the French Kissing series and opportunity for redemption and growth. They are very profound personalities that at first glance would never work together. These characters were strong and complex. It was a brilliant piece of work to watch them connecting and realizing the worth of their relationship. A very good read. I heartily and enthusiastically recommend this book and ALL others by Harper Bliss. Her novels are authentic and powerful. She is and always will be one of my favorite authors. Protagonist Marie is familiar, having appeared in an earlier Bliss novel as a free-wheeling heart breaker. True to form, she conducts a relentlessly intrusive campaign, breaks down poor Olivia's emotional defences and runs away laughing. At this stage, you curse, as the French do, and have the desire to plant a well-deserved boot in her derrière. But people change, which is the raison d'être of this book. Bliss has the gift of meaningful, page-turning prose, spiced up with Australian, British and American argot, and served with warmth and love of her characters. What an experience Marie and Olivia have -- and we get to join them on the journey. I had to read it in one sitting of course; there's just no way to leave the story until it gets to the end.
