It was an excuse for what was about to follow. I like the impossibly silliness when he writes about real people and events, but I could care less about his fictional people and their situations. They so obviously lack. The stories are silly to the point of frivolous stupidity. Why did I read this? ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on November 16, 2020 )

- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- David Sedaris' The Best Of Me is a good volume to have at hand : These collected short pieces are all either amusing or thought-provoking, and usually both, but the one involving European Saint Nicholas customs had me snorting out loud in a very inelegant way. A wide variety of topics, but a bit too much about his family for my taste. Still, I was often surprised by original insights into how a family works and sometimes how it doesn't.
